Sun Life coverage now includes segregated fund data.
When Sun Life was first added, coverage took in only part of the investment data available through the provider. Segregated funds were missing, and in workplace retirement plans, that is not a small gap.
Coverage now spans both mutual fund and segregated fund data for Sun Life, wherever that data exists in our dataset. Risk tiers, volatility, history and comparisons all work across it.
One thing worth saying plainly
Segregated funds are insurance contracts rather than securities. They carry maturity and death benefit guarantees, resets and contract terms, and a volatility figure describes none of that. It describes how much the fund’s value moved, and nothing about what a given movement means for the person holding the contract.
And we cannot tell you which is which. Our data carries no flag separating segregated funds from mutual funds, so nothing on our screens marks one apart from the other. Your plan documents do.
We would rather say that than let the caveat sound like something you can act on here.
We keep reviewing each provider for gaps like this one.
